TiDA has developed a world-leading advanced powder metallurgy research centre featuring state-of-the-art testing and prototyping equipment. The facility also provides specialist metallurgy training to provide skills and knowledge for the emerging powder metallurgy and metals testing industries.
TiDA and associated company Rapid Advanced Manufacturing Ltd (R.A.M.), also run Selective Laser Melting Machines from their Tauranga facility. These machines are only a handful of machines commercially available worldwide to offer 3D manufacturing in Ti, Stainless Steel and Inconel Powder, with more machines and alloys to follow.
Powder Metallurgy is breaking new and exciting ground in the world of design and manufacturing. It has revolutionised the ability to make complex products not previously possible, or just too costly. TiDA is at the leading edge in the research and production of titanium-based products using powder metallurgy consolidation processes. TiDA has been recognised for their innovative design and development of world-class products using powder metallurgy in high-tech manufacturing processes, and are now regarded as one of Australasia's leading Titanium Powder consolidation leaders.
The Research Facility includes a Vacumm Sintering Furnace, which can reach up to 1600OC, and is used in the Metal Injection Moulding process. This machine is the only one of its kind in New Zealand, available for research or commercial purposes. Advanced metals research and specialised coating options on finished products are also able to be completed right here in the Bay of Plenty, either in-house or with local commercial partners.
Newnham Park Innovation Centre is a horticultural-based business park, home to a number of award-winning innovation focused companies. All enterprises operating from the Te Puna, Tauranga based hub have positioned themselves within high-growth, high-value primary industry niches. These include research and development, horticultural management consultancy, innovation and science, processing and export, robotics, marketing, and product development.
Rapid Advanced Manufacturing (RAM3D) is in the enviable position to be able to offer commercial 3D printing services. With design engineers and research technicians working closely alongside clients, prototypes can be easily, efficiently and cost effectively produced.
3D printing is not only effective for rapid prototyping, it is a highly cost effective option for the production of complex parts and with four Additive Manufacturing machines there is an increased choice of materials that can be used in the production process. Titanium 64 remains the most frequently used powder due to its strong properties, offering a stronger, more corrosive resistant end product.
